The Bitter Feminist
What happens when women whose feminist voices upset the norm are tagged bitter feminists? A tag that connotes a negative stereotype and calls attention to the women as harsh, unkind, and unpleasant beings.
What happens when a group of women begin to see the tag as a distraction and as a means of shutting them down?
The answer is clear: rather than defending themselves and constantly proving that they are not some harsh, unkind, and unpleasant creatures, these women decided to own the tag of ‘bitter feminist’.
By owning the tag, they take advantage of its negative stereotype to draw attention to their positive demand — equal rights for women to that of men.
The Bitter Feminist documentary series draws on insightful conversations and interviews of women from various backgrounds to shed light on why feminism is not merely a cover for harsh or unkind women but a real fight against stereotypes that perpetuate gender inequality.
